I am writing to compensate for some negative reviews of this device. I bought a Canon because it has the ability to connect an external microphone. I'm a new camcorder user so I don't have any hands-on experience to affect my opinion in any way. First to the streamer noise: Yes, I hear it when I hold the device to my ear. But when played back on my computer, there is no noticeable noise in actual videos. Second, they claim that you can plug in and record clips on your computer. What they don't tell you is that you need a Firewire card and cable (only about $70 at Best Buy). You can't just connect to an available USB port on your computer. Fortunately, Microsoft provides the necessary drivers in XP OS and a minimal capture software called "Moviemaker". I'm not too happy with the tape system, but considering the price of the device I think it's a good deal. Finally, after a short experience with the device, I found that the ergonomic design for the right hand was very well thought out. Your thumb simply controls the belt's on/off and transport functions. It's really easy to use, at least for right-handed people. Satisfied with the product in all respects. Of course, if he dies next week, I'll have a different opinion.
