It works great until I used it five times

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy that keeps draining the battery every 3 weeks. I put this on the battery and it showed the battery waits low and started charging after a couple of days it showed the battery was charged. I just left it connected because it doesn't charge with a fully charged battery, but when is goes low again it starts charging again. It worked good for five charges then the power contacts started crackling and the LED indicators blinking on and off cutting out. So I purchased one that has a power cord on it.
