Great potential with the right thermal pads

The silicone pads supplied do not make good contact with my my my 970 pro 1tb. I had a high fever but I wasn't sure if it was normal. Apparently the density of the included silicone thermal pads is too high to fit the uneven surface and I could see outlines where they actually touched that were almost non-existent. I replaced the pads with the ones left over from the graphics card mod. They are slightly spongy and come in two thicknesses. I cut out a few of these to give them the right shape and place a 2mm thick one on the side of the controller where all the heat is. I put 1mm thick pads on the side with vnand chips. So there wasn't enough room to fit the entire sandwich into the bread without squeezing it until the screw holes lined up, which squeezed the thicker, softer pads in the shape of the m.2 drive components and had full, constant pressure contact . . As a result, my maximum temperature dropped by 15 degrees. It's around 32C at idle and the max so far is 46C. When gaming with my graphics card next to it, it heats up as it's constantly reading itself. Much better. The next version of this cooler should be spring loaded with thicker, softer pads.
