Review on ISTA I H616 Inline External Heater by Janet Edwards

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good heating. . . still, but there are some peculiarities.

I bought a 500w heater for my 90 gallon tank. So far it's had excellent temperature control, even during a bout of ichthyophthyriasis when I had to crank the temperature up to 31 degrees Celsius (87.8 Fahrenheit) to kill a parasite in my tank (ichthyophthyria must have invaded plant matter). haven't added any fish in months). Lots of complaints about the tubes not fitting, but I used the 16/22mm tube as stated in the product description (from Eheim) and it fits perfectly. Warm the hose in some hot water to make working on the fitting easier. The included hose clamp nuts can be removed if you are using a different size hose, simply add clamps. It would be nice if this product had decimal precision, now it's even degrees Celsius giving a jump of 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit for each degree Celsius. If you're trying to maintain a specific Fahrenheit temperature, you can't do it without decimal precision in the temperature setting. I printed a small conversion chart on a normal temperature labeling machine. The device makes an audible click when it turns on. It's not a problem for me, but maybe for someone. The device will oscillate one degree until it turns on. My tank temp is still stable but it is a 90 gallon tank. Smaller containers may vary. In the event of a power failure, the device remembers the set temperature. It is also very easy to set and regulate the temperature. The digital display is good. I only gave four stars as I'm not sure about the reliability or durability of the product.
