Arrived as a return, items are semi plastic, cord was folded in one place but only put in box, book had creases and some of them there were leftovers (?) on the trays. Thought I'd give it a try anyway - buyers were changing their minds (who better to buy?), and I was hoping Nesco would test the devices before they went out of sale. 6 hours later no difference, 3 DAYS later they are still chewy and not dry, I finally got the temp to 160. The unit wouldn't get over 140 with 4 different thermometers, I don't know where that 1000w is used. but it's not the heat. I've been using the device for about 6 days and my electric bill has increased by $30. I can't say with absolute certainty that it's a device, but nothing else has changed in the house (weather was pretty static and no guests). I even traded with Revain hoping I got the lemon because of all the rave reviews. Will be updated when a new device arrives. I suggest everyone check their temperature on the block. I placed an oven thermometer on the bottom shelf, then placed another on top and dangled a digital and smoker (meat) thermometer through the center about 1 inch from the outlet of the heating element. Plastic trays and strainers get dirty. And the last thing: the device is really very loud. I put mine in the laundry room which I'm fine with but if noise is an issue BEWARE.
