VIDEO: Pros and cons

UPDATE: Lamp just died after 6 months to give you an idea of life. I will leave 3 stars because it was pretty cheap. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I had many of these lamps because as a teacher I read and grade papers at night. Here's how this light differs from others: PROS1) Excellent light performance: the top light has three levels of brightness, and the bottom light (night light) changes colors including blue, purple, orange, yellow, green (saturated colors). BTW, my video doesn't show the colors correctly). 2) Thoughtful usability concept: the white button in the middle controls the top white light (you press three times for three brightness settings and then a fourth time to turn it off). The colored circle around the button controls the colored night light at the base. Swipe the circle and it will change color. Other lamps of this type I've had didn't have multiple colors in the base, so that's a plus. 3) Quality Construction: It's thick plastic, doesn't feel cheap like other lights I've bought. 4) The ceiling light is very flexible and can be swiveled to any desired position. 5) The light can be plugged in for use or unplugged after charging. CONS 1) hard to use buttons (see video). I often have to press multiple times to turn it on. When I wake up sleepy in the morning, turning it on isn't easy without careful fingerwork and thought. I've found that the best way to turn it on is to tap the center button with one finger (and even then, it sometimes takes a few taps to turn it on). When it's dark you'll have a hard time finding the night light button because it's so small on the outer ring. Again, a finger in just the right place is key. The other lights I've had are a lot easier because you can just slap the top of your hand to turn it on and increase the intensity, then press the whole thing with your palm to turn on the night light. It's much more difficult to use. 2) Short charging time: It took several days to charge my other lamps. This light stays on for a few hours and then I have to turn it back on. So now I just leave it on unless I'm checking work in bed. I just make sure it's fully charged. 3) The colors of the night lighting are too intense for me. I like softer colors when waking up in the middle of the night. Intense neon is not required. That's why I almost never use a night light. I would use it often if it was softer. Overall this is a quality light that I use often but with a certain disappointment.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Boring packaging
