Did your local pet store tell you to buy sand? Me too when I got my first reptile 8 years ago. Always do some research online before getting a pet! I have used reptile rugs for many years. Leopard gecko poop flies off, almost never sticks, and you can easily wash it if you don't like it. I change mine every few months, but you probably don't have to if you clean them regularly! (Use naturally reptile-safe soap and dry thoroughly)
