My freezer door sometimes opened about an inch at night. The second time, after throwing away thawed groceries I bought the day before, I was looking for the "ultimate solution". The tape and velcro didn't work with time, and the large clasp didn't work due to space constraints. I risked it with this bar. It works VERY well and is easy to use (TESTED BY WIFE!). To do this, I had to bend the strip a little on my thumb to get a better grip. That was easy to do with pliers. This latch is designed to prevent accidental snagging and latch release. Great for tool boxes, but not easy enough for freezers. Latch is spring loaded to close and stay out of the way. I installed mine about 1/3 of the way down at the top of the door seam. I installed it with 1/2" sheet metal screws that I left at the store. The latch fits inside the door so you can open it with your thumb. The latch is on the freezer's door seam and this makes it very easy to manipulate the latch to open and snap back in. Your fingers can easily reach underneath to open or over the top to latch in. Another reason I chose this latch was that It's small enough to work without taking up much space on the side of the freezer. Mine is about 2" from the wall and that gives you enough room to open the latch. Now my freezer is safe and sound. I... never have to worry about opening the door.
