Gold stains when wet

I'm pouring frosting onto a cake and when I try to "clean up" the excess frosting around the board, the gold smears and reveals the silver underneath. I figured it was a fluke so I tried it on my next glazed cake and the same thing happened. They aren't greaseproof and it's my fault for not checking. Wouldn't buy again. And it is NOT a 12" board. More specifically 11-11.5".
