I used to use Sigma 50-500mm. I wanted to get a little closer to the birds I shoot. 600 mm seemed to be the ticket. It turned out to be a very good investment. Focus is quick and accurate - he doesn't seem surprised by the search. The lens is heavy, and while I've gotten some great handheld shots, I'd recommend anyone using this lens for any length of time to at least consider a monopod (my pick). The only real issue I have with the lens is the lens hood mounting screw. The problem only occurs when you attach or remove the hood. The mount is very good and secure. It takes a bit of practice and maneuvering to take the lens off and on again, and I've dropped and lost (and then found) a tiny nut a few times now. I created a personal mod that makes this hood work better for me. You will probably want to do the same. Pros: price, focus, autofocus, lens feel (feels solid, not cheap plastic etc), lens latch. Cons: weight, hood bolt/nut. This is a great lens for the price.
