The aquarium has a shelf
Unfortunately my aquarium is a semi-circular aquarium that sits under the shelf and there isn't enough room to take full advantage of the algae brush. My husband was able to remove the handle after I cleaned it with a hand sponge so we could use it on other parts of the glass next time. The rest seems ok.
