I bought this Noctua USB fan with my hard earned money and this review reflects my experience with it. Purchased in April 2021 I purchased this Noctua NF-A12x25 variable speed version for various part-time cooling needs and possibly media cabinet cooling in the future. For the same price in an unmanaged version, I would recommend these. Strangely I have both versions. I use the uncontrolled version to cool my Slim Xbox 360. This managed version works with the NA-FC1 speed controller. I used it to provide additional cooling to my Drobo Raid when doing a massive backup of my NAS. The hard drives started to get a little warm. I also plan to use this on a laptop stand for additional cooling of my laptop. It directs extra air to the bottom of the laptop like a cooling pad. Noise: Even at full speed, I wouldn't call this fan loud or obnoxious, but it's audible. Around 75% is mostly quiet, and anything below 50% is quiet. The % correspond to how far I turned the speed control. The air speed is adjusted accordingly. This USB powered fan has several advantages, chief among which is versatility. It can be connected to anything with a USB port. Please note that the USB ports of many devices are powered even when the device is off, so the fan spins in these cases.
