Better use a rubber roller

I bought this roller to apply sound absorbing material to the dog house (engine cover) of my camper van. First, he's certainly doing what he needs to do - roll out the material. The way it's done I feel like I should have bought the rubber/polyurethane version instead. I like that the reel is metal. It has some weight and really presses on the material. What I don't like are the teeth/grooves on the roller. Of course, this makes it easy to see where you've been because the film has been given a diamond pattern before it is rolled up. The metal foil is thin, and if you have a curve smaller than a wheel, 1. you can't roll that part and 2. you risk tearing the foil like I did when turning the roll perpendicular to the used curve. Knowing what I know now, I would buy a rubber/polyvinyl wheel that is smooth and has either several different sized wheels or one smaller diameter wheel.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small house
Cons
  • Everything is fine
