Review on Enhanced Footwear Traction with Kahtoola NANOspikes by Jarom Bulles

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent ice packs!

Kahtoola makes the best ice grips. They are well made, durable, easy to put on and take off, and reasonably priced. I wear NANO spikes for everyday use on icy roads, sidewalks and trails. I wear them even on the sea beach in winter when there is ice stains, walking on rocks, gravel and sand. You just keep working! I check the sharp tips to make sure they aren't worn out, particularly on the heel, and expect to replace them every year or two as I use them constantly and run miles during our long Alaskan winter. It's a steal compared to a trip to the ER. I use the more aggressive MICRO spikes on icy, snowy steep trails; I find them to be overkill for normal everyday use but provide excellent traction on steep trails and slopes. Chains can break through the rubber after years of use and there are ways to reattach the chain with key rings etc to give it more life. If this or any other issue comes up during the warranty period, the company stands by their product and is great to work with. I've experimented with other brands: the chain design and spool design slid down a very slight slope and didn't inspire confidence in me. I find other brands get lost on the trails where they just fall off due to the wrong rubber suspension. A simple velcro or cord strap across the top of the boot is a good idea for any ice grips to ensure they never slip off. Don't worry about cheaper brands: Kahoola is the best.
