Review on Norton Japanese Style Combination Waterstone 8 Inch by Hikeboy Ramey

Good wide wet stone, very thin (4000) and polish (8000). Size 3x8 inches. Large enough for your 10" chef's knives or bowie blades. This stone was not flat from the factory and required grinding. Maybe it was seconds, and if you didn't know how to check the stone or how to restore it, it would cause problems for the user. A small problem is that both sides are made in different countries. and the 4000 grit side is much softer and wears out significantly faster, requiring resanding of the surface to avoid bulging and not getting a smooth edge if not corrected. The advert speaks of a Japanese-style water stone, but neither side is made in Japan. The overall quality of the stone is very good though, except for the softness (water stones tend to be softer than oil stones) and the plastic body is well thought out with non-slip rubber feet to rest your stone. The price is about 25-40% less than Japanese waterstones of similar grit and size. Overall good value for money.
