Easy install but had to extend cable for Tahoe

I had an earlier version with separate power cords and a true RCA video jack. Although it's good that the old version used standard cables/connectors and was easier to connect to 3rd party monitors/stereo with video etc. This newer version, with thinner 4-pin wiring, was less difficult to install. It took me about 2 hours to install on a 2009 Tahoe using the included crimp connectors to connect to the driver's side backup light (I'm fully prepared to solder the wires later if the crimp connectors prove unreliable). -- seems to be a good enough connection so far). All the cables were neatly tucked away, from the tail light to the camera in the tailgate, back through the seals to the floor, hidden under the plastic panels and door steps, behind the plastic to the left of the door. Parking brake, through the fuse box and behind the gasket up to the top of the driver's side pillar. when I found the video cable was about 2 feet too short to run along the headliner. to a mirror/monitor. I was able to plug it in, but with a wire dangling in front of me. so i got a mirror/monitor with a foot of cable attached to it and a 4 pin connector indoors, cut off the ends of an old black usb cable and used it to extend the cable by about 3 feet, soldered/heat-shrunk it with black tubing , then brought it back to Tahoe and finished the install. Works pretty well, but on my Tahoe there is a slight ripple on the monitor (noticeable but not an issue for usability), probably alternator noise (a common problem with car audio installs). Overall I'm very happy with the easy installation and from reading other reviews I knew it would probably be short so I knew I should extend the cable at some point unless other complaining people did some weird routing that I could avoid - no, the straightest. If you run along the floor, under all the plastic trim, up the driver's side, past the fuse box, up the A-pillar to the headliner, you're about 3 feet shy of a 2009 Tahoe. Easy enough to fix if you have a soldering iron and some spare wire. Very satisfied so far, allows me to see my ball head and what's behind me better than just mirrors.

Pros
  • . Everything great!
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
