Budget memory not compatible with MSI X470 Gaming Plus motherboard with Ryzen 5 processor Crucial 16GB Single DDR4 UDIMM CL17 memory in Bought and installed my new MSI X470 Gaming Plus motherboard with Ryzen 5 processor. I have experience building PCs from the ground up, it's been a hobby of mine since college. When I first started the computer it didn't send me a message or let me enter the BIOS and gave 3 long beeps. A search on the net revealed that the memory was not found or was defective. I don't think I have a bad motherboard because I've never had a motherboard fail, but I've had a lot of memory cards even when they were new. When a memory card uses cheap components, it has many quality and compatibility issues. After trying multiple times to reinstall the 16GB card, it finally worked with no explanation. In the BIOS, I couldn't enable my motherboard's XMP to adjust speed or memory settings (all XMP settings were locked). After working for a few hours, I shut down my computer to install a new CD. Then when I tried to turn on my computer, it stopped sending a message or wouldn't let me enter the BIOS, made three long beeps, memory problem again. Eventually I ditched the Crucial 16GB card and bought CORSAIR 16GB (8GB x 2) Vengeance LPX, CL15, 3000MHz premium gaming memory. After installing the Corsair memory cards, the computer booted normally for the first time, Windows 10 booted twice as fast. My first guess is that the Crucial memory cards are defective or have compatibility issues. My second guess is that the Crucial memory's CL17 rating is too slow for the CPU and motherboard, and Ryzen 5 requires memory cards that are rated CL15 and CL16 or higher (the lower the CL, the faster the memory). The funny thing is, after I bought the Corsair Vengeance, while waiting for it to be shipped to my house, the Crucial 16GB worked again and allowed the PC to boot into Windows 10. As it knows, Crucial memory will be replaced. and he decided to go back to work. After installing the Corsair Vengeance cards, the default speed was 2100MHz with no XMP setting. I went into bios, enabled A-XMP, set profile 2 and now it's running at 2933MHz, close to the advertised 3000MHz! Very happy with the Corasir Vengeance memory cards ($110 at time of purchase) even though they cost $11 more than the Crucial card. Crucial Pro 16GB 2400: 1. Budget for a PC that only runs Office programs2. Uses only one memory slot. Disadvantages: 1. Slows down games2. Slower Windows 10 boot time (20 seconds) compared to Corsair Vengeance DDR 4 3000MHz (just 10 seconds)3. May not be compatible with newer processors such as Ryzen 5 or higher that require high-performance memory.
