Review on πŸ”§ Magnetic Adjustable Indicator Holder: A High-tech Digital Solution for Precision Measurements by Eddie Fowler

Weak holding power, ball still slips when tightened

Unfortunately I have to have this Mag. Base error and a hard pass to hold dial gauges. I was looking forward to using this base but the small ball joint slips/moves a lot when the handle is tightened. Photo after revision. Both I received were like that. Both bases were also not aligned/flexed which affected holding power and moved/rolled easily, for some reason all those cheap magnetic bases do that, but it's easy to fix on surfaces after 5 minutes with a good flat file and wet sandpaper . Plate and improves significantly when pumping. The photos are taken after leveling, not as it was. The previous review is correct, it doesn't usually fit 3/8" gauges, it comes with an 8mm hole and needs to be drilled (see photo) to make it work (also use a reamer if possible). ), but it's very easy to do and there's enough flesh to get the dovetail holder working I converted this base to hold a GoforWild USB rechargeable headlight to move from car to car (see photo ) The biggest problem was that the small ball joint slipped easily no matter how hard you tighten the handle. It comes with oil on it, making it ridiculously slippery. Rinsing with alcohol helped, but it still slips under light pressure. I certainly don't trust her to take my good dial indicator for 1: it moves and gives an error reading (bad), 2: you have a good chance of your dial indicator slipping/falling and hitting something. It really doesn't hold up well. I also had to use thread glue on the big ball. My Noga Store base bounces and binds much better (no comparison) and my smaller and even cheaper AGP Tek Mag base that I bought here at Revain works much better, holds the dial gauge firmly and doesn't slip as easily . I sent the first one back because it slipped off, the second one wasn't any better but couldn't get it back after a flattering socket. My similarly sized Starrett 657 has a stronger base. Instead, I now adapt my windmill's rechargeable USB flashlight to it if it can handle it. The internal thread for the small ball is M5 in case you want to convert with another holder. It's not the seller's fault, it's a manufacturing defect. The seller immediately replaced the first with the second, for which two stars. The base itself deserves 0-1 stars, at least for the ones I got.

Pros
  • Check, measure and check
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
