Universal magnetic base for machinists and prototypes!

This is a versatile and quality magazine rack designed for machinists and prototypers. This is a great value even though the turn signal bracket is designed for metric (8mm) mounting studs. I use this magnetic base both in my workshop with indicators and in my lab where I prototype various optical/mechanical setups. I have 5 of these machines. In the machine shop I use two gauges to hold dial gauges and move them in the milling head, vise, etc. With the depth gauge, I can pinpoint the depth of…

No laboratory level, but hard to beat for the price

Pro: - Inexpensive, but does what it should. - Fine adjustment works well in both directions. the locking handle is held securely. - The on/off switch is smooth and reliable. - The base case feels solid and weighs around 1lb+. - Depending on the arm angle or the weight of your dial indicator, it can also be used without an anchor surface. The V-shape allows it to be used on irregularly shaped ferrous metals. Both the base and the back have fairly flat surfaces. Two possible mounting options…

Pros
  • Dimensioning
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for seniors

Weak holding power, ball still slips when tightened

Unfortunately I have to have this Mag. Base error and a hard pass to hold dial gauges. I was looking forward to using this base but the small ball joint slips/moves a lot when the handle is tightened. Photo after revision. Both I received were like that. Both bases were also not aligned/flexed which affected holding power and moved/rolled easily, for some reason all those cheap magnetic bases do that, but it's easy to fix on surfaces after 5 minutes with a good flat file and wet sandpaper…

Pros
  • Check, measure and check
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
