This is a huge learning curve for your pet.

We're still trying to get our 5 year old Yorkie to push buttons. When we press the button for the word she wants to say to us, like play, she gets so excited and runs to her toys. Because she thinks pretending to steal her treats is a game, I didn't use her treats for training. We adopted her when she was 3 years old and she already had this behavior. Patience and repetition are key, as is writing down a word she's used to. I set up Play, but this week I noticed that it's more responsive to Toy. So I changed the written word and she shows more interest. Instead of Outside I use Potty. She didn't quite understand how to consciously press the buttons. However, after I made these changes, she actually clicked correctly every time she ran and played with me. I praised her so much, but I really think it was an accident and not a conscious decision.
