Based on some reviews I was hesitant to buy these sponges but I am glad I did. Some other reviews have mentioned a chemical smell upon opening the package, and they're right; It has about the same chemical smell that I've experienced opening every other packet of sponges. It's not too strong, but noticeable. It almost completely disappears if you wet and wring out the sponge. The sponge has three layers: a white rough side, a gray sponge itself, and then a weird white felt? goal for now. In terms of performance, I have no complaints. It works about how I would expect a sponge to work. I just washed some plates that were in my sink and it worked great. I rinsed the sponge and smelled it, it smells clean. I have no regrets about this purchase just based on the first impression. Sponges with excellent value for money.
