Serious problems, avoid.

After reading the reviews I thought this scale would be a great second diamond scale for weighing individual diamonds in our daily work. I currently use an unnamed diamond scale that I bought here a few years ago for about $30 or so. It still works well, holds zero and has served me well. But I needed a second scale, and I figured the more expensive the better, right? God I was wrong. When I first opened the storage box and took out the scale, I was surprised at how cheap it was. In my opinion, that feeling didn't reflect the price paid. But as long as it worked well and held up, I let the cheapness pass. I put the batteries in, turned it on and did the reset process. I took several diamonds, one less than 1 carat and one more than 1 carat, whose exact weight I already knew, put one on the scale and closed the lid. I was shocked when it showed more than 1 caret. I re-zeroed and checked again with the same far off result. In short, my scale has a major defect or design flaw in general. Raising the draft shield resets the scale to zero. Simply close the draft shield so there is nothing on the scale and the scale will now display the weight. I have tried this several times with and without the large tray on the scale and have never been able to hold the 000 reading with the lid up and then down. I almost never gave proper reviews. I expect the product I purchase to work and be of overall quality compared to the price paid. I have decided to write this review because in my opinion this scale cannot be trusted and if used for important measurements it could cost the user $$$ (if used for diamonds) or worse (if it is used for drugs). It's coming back and I'm buying a second, cheaper scale that I'm currently using.
