OK Starter Digital Camera

I chose Olympus because I really liked my D-400. Advantages of D-395: Ease of use. Easily transfer photos to your computer or printer. Good color at default settings. Decent characteristics (haven't studied everything yet!). Small enough to fit in a purse or pocket. Uses AA batteries. Not very good, but correctable points: Small XD card included with the camera; bought to replace 128. Like all digital cameras, it eats batteries; Bought batteries. Cons: no optical zoom. I find digital zoom pointless. The shutter button is confusing for some, it's a variety of choices: a simple press or a firm press - if you're giving this camera to a friend to take a picture of, they usually won't get the shutter working on the first try. I haven't had much luck with red-eye reduction, but I'm using software on my PC to fix it. Other: The description claims photos up to 17 inches in size; I like to print at 300 dpi - I get along fine with 8x10, but I get the best clarity with 5x7. Use this for specialized computer processed jobs, you need a camera with more options like optical zoom and more MP. For the price and the features you get, this is a great camera for beginners.

Pros
  • Optical Viewfinder; PictBridge enabled; 1.5 inch LCD
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other models
