Review on Monster Master Titanium 21 Piece MM TP 002 by Austin Arvayo

The 21-piece Monster&Master Titanium Drill Bit Set contains all the bit sizes you could want in a hand drill, packed in a somewhat bulky carrying case. The drill set includes everything from a tiny 1/16" drill that's perfect for checking stud placement behind drywall, to a 3/8" drill that you use for large drywall anchors. In any case, almost all hand drills have a maximum diameter of 3/8 inch, so a 1/2 inch bit in the set only benefits those with a drill press. I've tried these bits in a battery powered hand drill and a drill press and they work well with either tool. I have used these drill bits for drilling drywall, wood, and thin sheet metal. Works very well - drills smoothly and cuts quickly. I have always used cheap black oxide drills and have only switched to titanium coated drills in the last two years. Doesn't matter. It's worth the few bucks more to get titanium coated material as it cuts through much easier and has a longer lifespan. These Monster&Master titanium bits are no exception. Titanium coating is just better. I got 4 stars because of the case. The metal case is great for stashing in your tool bag, knowing your bits won't get damaged thanks to the durable metal guard. However, there are two problems. Firstly I have an old set of ten year old Craftsman bits that came in an almost identical red metal case and after a year or so the case wears out a bit and doesn't stay closed well. There is no slide lock. I've only had this bit installed for a month so I don't know about the durability yet, but I am concerned that the 'mechanism' to close the body will fail long before the bits wear out. In addition, inside the case is a black plastic insert that keeps the bits in their grooves and prevents them from slipping out and hitting the top of the case and blunting the tip. That plastic insert is just loosely placed there so every time you open the case the black plastic thing partially pops out and bugs me. I used some crazy glue to attach the plastic insert to the case, but I'd love to see a better solution from the manufacturer. In summary, these titanium drill bits cut drywall, wood and some metals well. They are perfect for everyday DIY projects and are inexpensive compared to titanium coated bits. The case goes with everything but that plastic insert is a bit annoying and I am concerned about the durability of the case which will easily stay closed in a tool bag after a year or two of use.
