I bought this product to enable ARC (Audio Return Channel) HDMI 1 on my 2015 Vizio M55-C2 55" 4K Ultra -Replace HDTV. If you only stream Dolby Digital 5.1 Plus or similar, TOSLINK is a perfect fit for your needs. If your goal is to have 4K functionality with lossless audio via an A/V receiver, your receiver should have HDCP 2.2 encryption running over HDMI 2.0 or better. Another note from what I recently learned. If you have a 6.1 or 7.1 setup and your audio stream is Dolby Digital 5.1 Plus, do not set the audio receiver to "AUTO". Check if you have Dolby Digital Extended sound field. I have found that although it says Dolby Digital 5.1 the rear center channel is encoded into an audio channel and if you set it to EXTENDED your rear center channel will be enabled and receiving audio.
