Review on πŸ’» High-Performance Intel Xeon E5520 Processor: 2.26 GHz, 8 MB Cache, Socket LGA1366 by Adithep Saengdern

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I would definitely recommend the purchase, I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

The NSK3480 case with FSP Zen 400 and a pair of GV-R485MC-1GH turned out to be a small, generally silent and really powerful computer. And not wildly expensive, economical in terms of electricity. Without overclocking, there are no brakes anywhere, it's scary, Crysis 1920x1200 with maximum graphics flies like an old Wolfenstein on a Pentium. When choosing a mother, it is important that HyperThread is not disabled (most popular ones are disabled) and that the minimum memory frequency of the mother is 1066, otherwise this is the regular "maximum" for it, before overclocking it is important that everything works stably.

Pros
  • Together with Thermalright HR-01 Plus does not overheat at all, no matter what you do, without a fan. Due to HyperThread, 8 cores are visible (D0 stepping). If you monitor the load of the cores, it is noticeable that TurboBoost really works, the distribution is done in such a way as not to use unnecessary cores as much as possible - it saves electricity, which is important if the computer is pumping around the clock. Even though it says "for systems featuring two lga1366 sockets" on the box, it works fine in a regular DFI LANPARTY JR X58-T3H6 single-processor mother. i7 similar to this in terms of bells and whistles yet. And 125W is not 80W at all. Vista Ultimate x64 is great, but XP Pro x64 is just great.
Cons
  • Regularly, the memory is a maximum of 1066 (I installed 6 GV36GB1333C7TC - you can overclock it to 1333). The nominal frequency is 2.26 (you can overclock). This is the youngest processor from the "normal" ones - all of which have the third digit 0 in their names - generally castrati, neither TurboBoost nor HyperThread and a maximum of 800 memory. Read the docks on Intel. It would be possible to take the e5540, it is already 60W, but it is quite expensive. In short, there are no shortcomings.
