Don't let the three star sound quality put you off. I'm a sane snob and this really should be better than four or five stars! I use a $1700 radio every day that I would only give four stars. I bought these radios after my family and tried to play around the house with some toy radios. The toys were a huge flop and a waste of the money we spent. These radios have been excellent so far (about a week). We live in a fairly hilly and wooded area so I doubt we'll go five miles but we haven't had a chance to see how far we can go. The furthest we walked was about 500 meters down the hill and it was no different than the two of us were next to each other. My only complaint is that the belt clip isn't very flexible and doesn't go through thick material very well. .
