Testing the write speed of USB2 version and USB3 version

DTSE9-16GB vs DTSE9-G2-64GB. I've been using DTSE9-16GB USB2 for maybe the last 3 years. You were great. I bought maybe 150 of these and never got a single rejection. I work for a company whose technicians use them daily and we send them to customers for remote computer upgrades. We've dropped these units on concrete, in bags of keys all day, even washed clothes (in an employee's pants pocket, I took them out after hearing a ping in the dryer, although I wouldn't say I was there lay for a long time, sufficient to demonstrate the absence of damage when placed in a dryer for a full drying cycle.) For all the abuse we've put them through, they've never failed. DTSE9-16GB USB sticks write data a bit slower, so I was hoping to upgrade to DTSE9-G2 -64GB USB3. I wanted to test the difference in speed between these two models on a computer with USB2. After zeroing the drives, I formatted both in Windows7 to Fat32/Fatex 64k Allocation Units. = 3.5 MB/s DTSE9-G2-64 GB usb3 = 85 s = 12.3 MB/s Transfer of a 7.62 GB folder with 1500 subfolders and 11,000 files: DTSE9-16 GB usb2 = 3300ec = 2.3 MB/s DTSE9-G2-64GB usb3 = 1601s = 4.75MB/s** Barely noticeable temperature change when touching on USB 3 during 7GB transfer, absolutely no worry about overheating from data transfer. So the USB 3 version looks just as robust, but still needs testing. Works 2x faster with small files and about 3.5x faster with large files. These drives are still slow compared to other USB2 and USB3 drives on the market, but I like them because they're virtually indestructible.

Pros
  • Brilliant done
Cons
  • Legacy model
