This lock cannot be recoded

I bought this lock to replace a 50 year old Dexter lock. Dexter is no longer in business, believing Schlage bought him. The good news is that my current key fits this lock. However, when I took the lock to a locksmith to have it replaced with my current key, he couldn't find a way to get at the lock mechanism. He said he could drill holes to look for an unlock but recommended I buy another lock. I returned the lock and bought a working lock in Lowes.
