In general, the product itself has an excellent build quality in relation to the value for money. It feels solid, almost to the same extent as an OEM unit. My order arrived exactly as described: a key with a pre-installed battery and a transponder that you have to install yourself. As an added touch I took the OEM BMW key badge as it is not included. Installing the transponder is a bit tricky as there are no instructions and you have to disassemble the entire device to figure out where it goes. Pairing a key is pretty easy, just search the internet and it will take less than a minute. However, if you are receiving this because your original keys are dead, note that you must begin the key pairing process with the physical key within five seconds of unlocking the door. I didn't know that and at first I had problems. Full functionality of this button is not the easiest process. I ended up going to three different locksmiths to find someone who could cut the damn thing off. Even then, the store charged $40 for her work, not the cheapest edition. You also need to remove the blade from the key so the locksmith can cut it, the body of the key gets in the way of the fasteners. Getting the key is not the end of this long process as programming the transponder is also a bit tedious but I think anyone can do it with the right tools. I bought an AK90+ off eBay for about $20 and the whole process of taking my car apart and programming the key only took about 30 minutes. Note, however, that in this case you will need a 10mm socket wrench, an extension for it (so you can get to the EWS) and trimming tools. When fully functional, this key works very well and looks very clean compared to the original key. Although there are some hidden costs, when BMW charged me $400 for a key change, it seems like a really good deal for only about $80. It just takes a little time and dedication.
