Begins about a month later When I received the printer, the warning messages "Print Head Error" appeared. What prevented the printer from printing. I've tried the troubleshooting steps listed on HP support. Shutting down made it go away. Temporary (usually for a day or so, but it kept coming back, usually in the middle of a print job). After about 5 months it became permanent and I couldn't type at all. HP support sent a refurbished replacement. In my 7th Month later, the humming power supply was driving me crazy enough to rush back into another hour-long phone call to HP support. This time they sent a replacement power adapter with the caveat that the printer should be plugged directly into an outlet and not into a surge protector. I'm not an electrical engineer and I didn't stay at the Holiday Inn Express last night, but I know a little bit about electricity and it doesn't make sense. Month 8, plugged directly into the wall, printhead error! The exact problem I had with Printer #1 in Month 1 didn't progress straight to terminal stage until Month 5. All printer failures occurred with starter cartridges or the first set of genuine HP replacement cartridges from the national offices' supply chain. Now HP is sending another replacement, and I only have a 4 month warranty left. I think I should be thankful that HP offers a 1 year warranty instead of the industry standard 30-90 days. Offered to sell me an extended warranty plan (how thoughtful). To extend it for another 2 years it was the cost of a new printer. I would give the printer 3 stars based on performance alone. Performs appropriately. Doesn't scan duplex when printing duplex -1, seriously? Photo printing (do people still do it?) is a far cry from the quality printers printed in the '00s, -1. Printing in draft mode is high-quality and ultra-fast. (I'm a teacher, we're taught to always start and end with something positive. I'm halfway there). that was the cost of this new printer.
