The material is very soft and durable feeling, it doesn't feel like plastic at all! It proved to be very well at being water proof and protecting my new mattress, because as soon as my daughter was finished helping me put it on my mattress, she accidently dropped her water bottle on it.and naturally the lid was not on the bottle! All we had to do was wipe it off with a towel. Great!
