Review on Nikon AF-S FX NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Zoom Lens: Ultimate Auto Focus for Nikon DSLR Cameras by Mohamad Yusri ᠌

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Overall pretty good, an equal number of pros and cons.

After reading piggy enthusiasm about this lens on various forums, I decided to buy one for myself. I bought it specially before the holidays, so that I can check it properly on a trip, in fact (although, of course, 24-70 2.8 is not at all for travelling). I use with D700. Well what can I say? I am disappointed! Everything is good in this lens, except for the output image. Everything is great at focal lengths 24-50 at 2.8, but starting from 50mm, sharpness drops, and 70mm at 2.8 looks very poor. You can’t even call it softness, it’s just soap. This made me very upset, because. 50% of the shots from this lens come from soapy 70mm. I have an American (with serial number USxxxx). Thought maybe marriage? I asked to show the full size by 70mm with 2.8 other owners of this glass from photo. Ru - the same thing. In short, I didn’t get pleasure and satisfaction from the purchase, my “selective” Tamron 28-75 2.8 produces the same picture (and even better at 70mm), although it loses in constructive and autofocus. But I'm not going to sell the lens, because. I like to shoot dances in a club in bad light, and in such conditions, fast and accurate af is more relevant than ringing sharpness at 2.8. This lens is designed for shooting weddings and parties in bad light. Total: in practice, we have 24-70 f2.8-4 with good af and a very limited scope, for 50-60 tyr. The pros know without me, but as an amateur, I categorically do not advise an amateur to buy: expensive, heavy, few focal lengths, no stub. I advise amateurs 24-120 / 4, the loss in aperture ratio is insignificant compared to larger focal lengths and a stub. And if it “stings” and you really want a new expensive toy, then it’s better to buy, for the same money, a top light fix, for example 35 1.4G or 85 1.4G, there will be more pleasure. My rating is 3.

Pros
  • + Sturdy construction + Autofocus accuracy and speed + Excellent backlight retention, high microcontrast + Very convenient hood attachment + Convenient dimensions, perfectly balances with the D700 and lies in the hand
Cons
  • - Soapiness of the picture at 70mm at 2.8 - Price
