Easy-Pasey to replace my hardened calcified hi-hats with these new ones and they work great. I always leave the caps screwed on slightly so that they automatically vent. (Some people open them temporarily but usually keep them closed.) They vent the pipes and keep water out once the air is deflated. I replaced very similar ones that were about 10 years old and had limescale build up in and around the exhaust valve. The accumulation resulted in a continuous dripping of water. After installing a few new ones, I unscrewed the caps from the old ones and soaked the whole thing in a bowl of white vinegar for a couple of weeks. The old ones are almost like new again. I tested one of the cleaned old ones and it has been working great for a few weeks now. Now I have a few reserves.
