Hello! I am an experienced caretaker. I'm good with my tools. I liked this detector. It reminded me a lot of the old tif8800. How it worked, that's how it worked. The nice thing was that I could just use a 9 volt battery and didn't have to buy special batteries like the Tif. Was happy with it for 14 months until it stopped working. The wheel on it became loose and I couldn't adjust it or turn it off. Called UEI, which usually provide good service. I found out that the warranty was a little overdue, and then found out that the repair would cost a little over $100 shipping. $100 goes a long way for a new one, so I decided to throw this one out rather than put another $100 in it. But since I hate throwing things away, I opened it up and was able to fix it myself. It turns out that the wheel came off the steering wheel. I used blue loctite on the screw and hope it holds. Conclusion - next time I will buy a gas detector somewhere else. Would appreciate UEI supporting this product but they didn't - better wheel and mounting bolt design needed.
