Review on 📡 Advanced Radiation Detector Software - RADEX by Brian Schultz

Just received mine and am very impressed. I've been a nuclear engineer for 20 years, so I immediately put it in a plastic bag (contamination protection, which turned out to be a good idea!). The device was easy to use, just turn it on. The units were in µSv/h which is a bit confusing to me as I grew up with R and mRem but it shows my age. Ampoule with lumps of ore from United Nuclear, and the system reacted normally, the measured values rose to 3-5 µSv/h (from background approx. 0.1). If the factory setting of 30 µSv/h is exceeded, an acoustic signal sounds (if you have set the settings correctly for this) and there is a cracking sound; everything stops automatically once the reading falls below the set value, which is great. UPDATE: I bought a small container of Morton's salt substitute today (potassium based, not sodium based); Potassium-40 emits 1.46 MeV gamma rays, and this differs from normal background by about 0.1 to one in 0.18; I couldn't repeat this experiment and get a reading above 0.15, but the increase was clearly there. This energy is outside the specifications for gamma ray detection but within the specifications for x-ray detection. In fact, they are the same, only the energies, as a rule, differ, since one is produced by a change of state of orbiting electrons, and the other by the atomic nucleus itself. Just an additional information for you. "Flashlight" doesn't seem really useful, except maybe in a real emergency, and computer logging software, which I haven't used, doesn't seem all that useful for my needs (although I'm glad there's such an option) , but for checking the radiation background (as well as cleaning the vial of uranium ore that I fell on the floor and broke), the block itself was very useful. It will be interesting to see what improvements are made to the line in the future, but for now I am very happy with the Radex 1212. I would recommend it to anyone regardless of their radiation experience.
