Review on NetumScan Wireless Barcode Scanner with Stand: Portable 2-in-1 QR & 1D Reader for Warehouse POS and Computer by Sherry Elliott

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent 2D and 3D barcode scanner. Connection via wireless connection or USB. No continuous or automatic mode

You used to pay what this scanner costs to get a USB only scanner that only scans 1D barcodes. You can now get this scanner with the following features: 2D and 3D barcodes Wireless connection via (included) 2.4GHz adapter Connection via USB cable (included) Scanner stand The stand requires a nominal volume assembly. It's not particularly high quality, but it will get the job done if you're not too diligent. Note that contrary to the product description, there doesn't seem to be a way to put this scanner in continuous or automatic mode, requiring you to pull the trigger to start scanning. This limits the usefulness of the stand. I tested the ability to read 2D and 3D barcodes in multiple directions (upside down, sideways, top right) and in each case the scanner worked fine. I tested the WiFi dongle on my PC. It installed without drivers and the scanner connected immediately (didn't have to do anything). The wireless dongle is a micro-sized dongle that plugs into any USB-A (2.0 or 3.0) port. My main objection here - and this is common with many modern scanners - is that to set up a scanner setup you scan a barcode from an attached barcode sheet. For example, if you want to reset the scanner, change the language, or change the auto timeout duration, you need to scan the appropriate barcode. Lose this hand and. OK good luck. Luckily, you can start using the scanner right away without changing the default settings, and it will work fine for most applications. You can connect it both wirelessly (2.4GHz dongle) and wired (USB-A) without changing the default settings. The company offers a more comprehensive list of barcodes for configuring scanner settings on its website. Since the list of barcodes to program is much longer than the included (poor) manual, I highly recommend downloading this manual for posterity when you receive your scanner. All in all, this is a pretty good handheld scanner. I like the ability to read 1D and 2D barcodes in any direction. I don't like using barcodes to edit settings and wish they included all the useful barcode settings instead of forcing you to download a manual. I note once again that despite what is described in the description, this scanner does not support either continuous or automatic scanning. Also note that the company is releasing another version of this handheld scanner kit that is almost identical except that it also supports Bluetooth and this kit is only a few dollars more expensive. If it were up to me, I would take it, because thanks to the Bluetooth connection you can also easily connect to your cell phone / tablet / etc., i.e. devices that do not support a USB dongle. But whichever version you choose, it's a decent scanner.
