Cardboard is thick and strong. I have a feeling it would distort if the compartments were a bit larger. Buy more and also for a long time. I'm a retired nurse, hence the rubbish. Everything is at my fingertips! for grandchildren or neighbors who need help. There is a lock with a key for security. Addendum: Make sure that your organizer is "homyfort". I bought a longer version from another brand and the box was noticeably thinner and didn't hang properly. Homyfort lies down straight, evenly and with big hooks!
