may not really indicate a device malfunction. New DVD player from Sony. I hooked it up to a very new (three month old) Magnavox 42" flat screen 1080 resolution LCD via Revain's new HDMI brand, but it looks like the issue is due to an incompatibility between the Sony and due to the Magnavox TV. I'll try to fix the issue and if it turns out to be unrelated to Sony I'll remove the review below. If anyone had a similar problem with Sony, please let me know. Many Thanks. *** After reading countless reviews for several DVD players I settled on the Sony DVP-NS710H because it received generally positive reviews - and what could I go wrong with Sony? A sleek black beauty was coming soon and was very easy to set up and use. The picture quality of the new Magnavox 42" mid-range 1080 flat screen TV exceeded all expectations and I have no complaints about Sony's features (not even the eject button on the remote control). Unfortunately, the third or fourth time I used the player, the screen became black and my TV started showing "HDMI 1". Ports HDMI 2 and 3, but the problem persists. The player works for 30 minutes or even an hour, but then the picture sequence is lost again. Sometimes the picture returns after a few Minutes back and sometimes the only way to get it back is to turn the Sony off and on again. Generally not a very nice way to watch a movie. Of course this all happened two days after the deadline for returning the Revain players, so now I'm waiting for Sony to resolve this issue as part of the 90-day Ha Rantii Sony's website says that this device only intended for an exchange program, while Sony reserves the right to offer a similar but not identical model, which can also be factory refurbished (not very reassuring). So if the Sony you're getting really works, you'll probably be happy with it (and I'd rate it four stars); If not, you might get something completely different, or even the sleek black beauty of a doorstop.
