I like that this mat is smaller and convenient to use. It has a great hard surface that works much better than an ironing board. However, when I used this on my work table, heat and moisture definitely got through to the table, enough that I am sure the table would eventually be damaged by this. I put a towel underneath the mat to try to protect the table, but ultimately I think I will need to look for something better that actually does block heat from getting through the bottom layer. I can't recommend this product, unless you are planning to use it on a surface that won't be damaged by heat and moisture from the iron.
