Looks Good: Computers and accessories

Nice m.2 heatsink/drive cover, the fan is quiet, I can't even hear it dropping the temp. I finally managed to buy the PCIe m.2 drive I've been dreaming of for a long time and I wanted it to look good in my case so I bought this cover. Did it have a nick on one corner like it had been dropped or hit by something? It's not very noticeable, but it's there, so it's not a problem as it doesn't affect how the cooling works. I wanted to mention those who might not have noticed. Take a good look at those thermal pads, they both have a layer of plastic wrap on each side and I'm pretty sure they shouldn't stay there. I've used thermal pads a few times in the past and have never seen them made from plastic sheets that didn't peel off prior to application. They are removable but the instructions say nothing about removing them before application. The plastic sheets between the gaskets and the heatsinks do NOT work well for cooling, the gaskets should be used uncoated. Why didn't they bother to mention this in the instructions, anyone's guess? but do not leave them on or the thermal pads will not be effective for cooling. In fact, if these plates impede cooling, they prevent the heat sink from absorbing heat. Thermal pads are designed to transfer heat, plastic sheets act as a barrier to prevent heat transfer. Remove transparent films before use. Something the directions should have indicated but didn't.

  • Electronics
Cons
  • Requires outlet
