Failed to load media. One afternoon I noticed water damage on the side of a kitchen cabinet. I thought the dishwasher might be leaking so I called the contractor (it was a new house) and while I was leaving a message I also ordered this moisture meter. The switch arrived well before the contractor called me back, and with the switch in hand, I began checking everything. And I was scared, very, very scared. The meter showed humidity above 50% in some places in the cabinets and 30% on the wooden floor near the kitchen. When the contractor finally arrived, the living room floor was completely warped and the veneer on the cabinets was peeling. The contractor paled when he saw the damage. After checking the sink and dishwasher (no problem, btw), he began cutting pieces out of the drywall. Eventually he discovered a leak in a wet pipe. What a mess, what a horrible, expensive mess. It took almost a month to replace everything. Now this moisture meter has become my new best friend. I regularly check walls, floors and kitchen/bathroom cabinets for moisture. I'm not sure how accurate the readings are, but I'm just looking for the relative difference from one location to another, which would indicate a moisture issue. So this is a tool that every homeowner should have. It lets you know when something is leaking in a wall or under a cabinet long before a small leak can become a costly repair.
