I was so excited to try this brand as all the sewing boards are full of posts praising its virtues - smooth, no shedding and just perfect in every way. I unwrapped the plastic covering on the spool and started winding up a few spools. I had problems almost immediately. I saw a little ball of yarn float past heading for the spool and I thought oh I hope it was an accident. But it wasn't. I experienced another ball of tangled thread on my second spool and stopped winding just before it reached the spool. I spent a good half hour untangling a nest of tangled threads as the bobbin was at least half full and I was hoping to make at least one bobbin so I could try sewing with this material. But the growl was too tangled and I finally had to give up and cut it at the last knot that was too tight to untie. At this point I decided I either had a defective coil or I was doing something wrong. I've been spooling since I was a kid, I'm 62 years old so I have no idea what I could be doing wrong. I forgot to mention that I used my Bernina which only has vertical spool holders. So for the second bobbin after the first problem I tried the thread cone holder that is mounted behind my second bobbin winder. But I had problems with every method. So I gave up and after removing the spool from the thread stand I noticed that another loop of thread was visible beneath the surface. It's hard to tell from the photo I uploaded, but this loop has been built deep into the spool, it's not a surface loop of filament wrapped around the outside. Contact the company directly instead of simply initiating a Revain return. I found the aurifil website and used the contact form to explain exactly what happened. That was five days ago and I have not received a response from the company. Of course, problems can arise with any product or service. What matters to me is how the company responds to and solves the problem. In this case, of course, Revain allowed me to send the floss back and refunded me once I dropped off the package at my local UPS office.
