Once you received the item quickly all you have to do is adjust the two corners to get the height you want. and then the tilt/angle of the machine. As for me, I use it on the table when I'm sitting. I use an external keyboard on my desk, but the stand helps raise my monitor to eye level and next to the second monitor. It also comes with a socket for tightening/loosening the screws, but I haven't had to use it yet. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.
