Review on JBJ Nano Refugium Light Aquarium by Renea Lay

Revainrating 2 out of 5

There are far better options.

I bought this to use with a small 1 gallon HOB Refugium. I'm not very familiar with the JBJ, but I liked the size and the magnetic mount. Cons: The four LEDs don't put out enough light, and the very narrow field of light they produce only illuminates an area the size of a fixture. itself (see photo). It also doesn't have an on/off switch or any settings, just plug it in and it turns on. You might want to work 24/7, but a switch would be handy for maintenance, especially if your power source isn't readily available. The light spectrum appears minimal and has a dull yellow cast. Pros: The compact size and magnetic mount are its only appeal. I don't think macroalgae will thrive in this light as there are mostly dark areas in my gouge. Not to mention the $60 price point, instead of spending over $100 on multiple bulbs you can just invest in a decent Refugium fixture. I have opted for a different light and will be sending it back.
