First of all the great price and easy installation convinced me to buy this for a car that rarely tows so I didn't want any of the Ordinary. or expensive. That's it. IF you frequently tow heavy loads, DO NOT BUY. I have an old controller in my truck that drags often and hard and I can tell you I will never put it in my truck. The main problem is progressive braking. If you slam on the brakes to slow down, regardless of your gain or power setting, the controller will eventually ramp up to the maximum you set, no matter how much brake pressure you have. This way you can apply the brake slightly to slow down a little and after a few seconds if you don't take your foot off the brake your trailer will drive with the maximum stated force. It is out of proportion to how hard you and the car are trying to stop. This is particularly annoying when you come to a full stop, because if your vehicle slows to that point, you've been braking long enough for the trailer to brake to the maximum, causing the trailer to jolt you into a pause. I quickly learned to release the brake just before stopping, only to brake again in the final mph. Very impractical and uncomfortable. Also, the emergency slider doesn't push the controller to 10 max effort like my old controller does. If your controller is set to 3 for light braking and you need an emergency stop so that you hit the handlebars, you will only get 3 braking power. This is pretty pointless as the emergency setting should take precedence over the previous settings. My old controller does this and it's saved me a few times. So if you need a cheap controller to carry light loads 2-3 times a year and can easily put up with the above disadvantages, this is the ideal controller. Otherwise absolutely better.
