Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ Ampeak Smart Battery Charger/Maintainer 12V - Fully Automatic with 2/10/25A and Engine Start by Kyle Costello

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Compact, powerful unit that can be switched back from float mode, the recovery feature pays off!

Not bulky and heavy like most, quite small with lots of features! It's ridiculously easy to use and runs in the default auto load mode by default, and you really don't have to press any buttons if you don't want to. The huge, clear display is intuitive and shows you exactly what's going on. It scrolls through the charger's voltage/percentage of charge and the mode it's in (i.e. floating vs. recovery, etc.). Other brands either have fuzzy LEDs or you have to press buttons to get voltage/percent if available at all. I haven't used it to start a dead battery, but I'm not worried about the quality. Recovery mode is NOT a trick! I took a completely dead battery that had been in a dead car for over a year to fully charge and keep it. The last time I touched this battery I couldn't even jump off it after 20 minutes of trying. It was completely useless and didn't even turn on the turn signals on the dash. Incredibly impressed. It couldn't save the old deep battery I had, but this charger reported a bad battery than any other "smart" charger I've tried, just charged it and never had an internal short and lack of capacity have noticed! It's quiet, as long as the fan kicks in over 10A when charging, then the air is really moving! Was impressed with the cooling compared to other chargers. In short, I made an uninterruptible power supply using an inverter. This charger actively scans the battery and automatically switches from float mode to charging. "Big deal," you say. They all do it. However, this is not the case, almost all chargers either support slow/low current to avoid melting the battery, or charge to 100% and float but not switch to a higher current if there is a discharge or short in the battery system comes . (i.e. leave the lights on if the car is parked). This charger is the only one I've come across that actually switches between modes. And that's a third of the price of some others I've tried and returned!
