Bought for my 87 year old mother who had a stroke. She lives with us in the basement of our house. She is very mobile and I always worry that I won't hear her when she needs me. I bought a set of 3 devices and placed the receivers around the house. One in my daughter's bedroom (her bedroom is next to my mother's), in my bedroom on the second level, and one in the attic (which echoes throughout the living room). The ringer is pleasant but warning, and the light is not shocking. The lights are beautiful shades of purple, blue and finally bright red. I highly recommend this if you need an alert system but don't want the device to look old and sterile. This also works great for a child.
