Review on Astromania 1.25 Inch 7.5Mm 58-Degree Planetary Telescope Eyepiece by Bill Lyons

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Much better than expected

My original 6mm TMB series 2 eyepiece was stolen last year and I finally got around to replacing it. I wasn't completely happy with the original - it didn't have the focus "snap" that I like to see, and had annoying dancing reflections on bright objects. So I decided to try the Astromania version. And what I got is an excellent eyepiece, with none of the problems of the original. With my 950mm F/7.5 triplet refractor, the 158X magnification is sharp across the field of view, with comfortable eye placement, good color rendition, no dancing ghosts, barely-noticeable scatter, and very sharp snap-to-focus. I compared it to a Baader 6mm ortho on several targets, and the ortho shows me nothing that I can't see in this one. Except this is easier to use and has a much wider FOV. Fit and finish on it are also excellent. It remains to be seen how it will do in a faster scope, but I'm very impressed and pleased.

Pros
  • Enhances Image Quality: The advanced optical design of the eyepiece enhances the image quality, bringing out the finer details and textures of celestial objects
Cons
  • The eyepiece may not be as sharp as other options on the market
