Review on Civago Stainless Insulated Tumbler Friendly by Balakrishna Tam

Put a lid on cups and mugs

I was optimistic about these insulating mugs and while they didn't disappoint me completely, they weren't as good as I had hoped. I have eight ICONIQ 20 oz. Insulating glasses and eight 30-ounce Liquid Savvy glasses. Insulating glasses so I used them as a basis for comparing these Civago mugs. The first two times I used these hot coffee mugs, I noticed that they didn't seem to hold the temperature any better than my standard ceramic mug. This was done without using a lid. After the third time, I got curious and decided on a completely unscientific comparison. I put two insulated Civago mugs and one ceramic mug inside. I added hot water to each and watched the temperature change in a matter of minutes. I decided to test Civago cups with and without the lid. For the test, I set the cups at room temperature of 25°C for about 30 minutes. I then heated 30 ounces of water in the microwave, took a water reading, filled each cup with 10 ounces of water, and took the initial reading (0 minutes). I took another reading every five minutes - up to 20 minutes - and then took a final reading at 40 minutes. My first test was an uncapped Civago; the second was a Civago with a lid. On the first test the starting water temperature was 201°F, and on the second test the water was 204°F. It would be nice if I got the same starting temperature on the second test. One thing I found interesting was that as soon as I put water in the mugs/cups, the temperature dropped a few degrees. I also can't explain why the temperature drop in the second test was less than the first, but if you focus on temperature over time it's still a good comparison. Bottom line, using a Civago mug without a lid works a little better than a traditional ceramic mug. However, the cup retains heat much better with a lid. If you're a hot drink lover and don't mind drinking with a lid, these mugs are for you. The color choice is nice. The lids seemed tight enough to prevent liquid from spilling out and were easy to remove. As with all those stainless steel glasses/tumblers the seal will shrink over time and need to be replaced so it would be nice if the manufacturer sold replacement seals (maybe they cover this under the warranty?). If the seal starts to leak, you'll have to buy a standard replacement cap and hope it fits snugly. Pros: - Good color choice - Heat retention with lid - Comfortable grip Cons: - No replacement seals available - Heat retention without lid

Pros
  • Good construction
Cons
  • Terrible hardware
